Autism Spectrum Disorders

A type of neurobiological disorder, Autism has become one of the most frequently diagnosed disorders in children. Although nobody knows what exactly causes autism, it is believed to be related to genetics, making it more complex and difficult for the child to comprehend and process information. Typical characteristics of Autism include impaired social interactions and impaired communication skills, repetitive and restricted behaviors, and impairments in information processing. Together, the above mentioned impairments are referred to as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Though symptoms of ASD may be visible from infancy, by the time the child is approximately three years of age, the symptoms begin to become more notable during the toddler years. Early identification of any developmental disorder can help maximize a child’s social, behavioral, and academic functioning.

If your child shows any symptoms of ASD, feel free to contact Dr. Wenger at 305-662-1118 or at drwenger@gmail.com about scheduling an appointment or to learn more about his services related to ASD.
